 Our client, a reputable company in the health insurance industry, is seeking a highly skilled, strategic, and results-driven CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER to oversee the company’s financial strategy, planning, and operations.

ROLE PROFILE

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning and management of the financial and management accounting systems, policies and procedures to ensure prudent financial management to support the operations/programs of the Company. He /she will also undertake the following tasks:

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical expertise in the development and implementation of the Finance Department’s strategy/plans as input into the overall Corporate Strategy of the company.
  • Develop and implement policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work plan and other support systems including monitoring mechanisms to achieve set targets.
  • Conduct financial modelling, forecasts and analysis to support the development of strategic initiatives, investments and programs.
  • Develop comprehensive budget templates, guidelines, reporting and monitoring systems.
  • Lead in the preparation of the annual operating budget the Company.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures for analyzing budgetary performance to aid monitoring and control of approved budget.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls.
  • Direct the development of accounts payable/receivable systems and monitor its implementation in line with approved financial polices/guidelines.
  • Monitor cost/expenditures and prepare relevant reports to guide Management in decision-making.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of appropriate accounting control systems to ensure sound financial management.
  • Develop procurement policies, anti-fraud guidelines and processes and monitor its implementation to ensure compliance.
  • Serve as a focal point on all financial intermediation with the various Banks in line with approved policy.
  • Responsible for analyzing and managing the balance sheet to ensure the availability of adequate funds to meet operational needs.
  • Responsible for the prudent allocation of approved funds to support programs/ projects and monitor to ensure efficient spending.
  • Ensure timely payment of health service providers and other suppliers.
  • Manage the investment appraisal process for potential investment businesses for approval.
  • Ensure that investments and returns are accurately and fully accounted.
  • Ensure maximization of investment returns via prudent treasury management.
  • Maintain strong professional working relationships with Financial Institutions, External Auditors, Regulatory Agencies and other stakeholders in the area of financial and tax management.
  • Stay abreast with legislations, IFRS rules/regulations and international best practices in Financial Management.
  • Advise on all regulatory and statutory requirements with respect to financial operations within the insurance sector.
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and any other statutory reports.
  • Monitor to ensure that all financial and management accounting reporting systems are in line with regulatory requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Liaise with the Audit & Assurance Department on all audit activities and monitor to ensure that all audit queries are handled expeditiously.
  • Accountable for managing performance, succession development and resource allocation within the Department.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for the performance of assignments in their respective areas of responsibilities.
  • Conduct performance appraisal, provide input for career development and recommend performance incentives for subordinate staff.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate training for subordinate staff.
  • In-depth working knowledge of accounting principles in accordance with IFRS and other standards and related regulations.
  • Extensive financial knowledge, including treasury management, investment planning, asset allocation, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/understanding in building complex financial models to evaluate various financial plans.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in an insurance industry.
  • Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA) and a member of a recognized accounting and/ or financial or taxation institution (ICAG, ACCA, CITG).
  • Experience with implementation of IFRS 17 will be an added advantage.
